2. Measures 13 – 24
This section is an extension of the first, a second strain of the melody that leads up to the first cadenza. The texture is the same as before, with the added complication of some large stretches in the left hand (tenths and widely spread chords). Liszt had very large hands and could reach tenths (and even bigger intervals) with ease. This is perhaps the reason why the tenths in measures 13 and 15 (and even the twelfth in measure 16!) do not have arpeggio signs before them in his score. Pianists with normal-sized hands will need to split the tenths...
